You can have a pan of warm, fudgy brownies in 30 minutes from start to finish.
Note: You can use vegetable oil in place of the butter if desired.
Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar and vanilla. Mix in the eggs. Set aside.
Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl. Gradually stir this into the egg mixture until well blended. Stir in the nuts or chocolate chips, if desired.
Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean.
Let cool on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
