These dinner rolls are so easy to make, and are great with soups or pasta.
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, mix the shortening, sugar, and hot water.
Allow to cool until lukewarm, and mix in the yeast until dissolved.
Mix in the egg, salt, and flour.
Allow the dough to rise until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into greased (or sprayed) muffin cups, and allow to rise again until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

These were great and sooo easy to make. They were light and fluffy, better than any store bought rolls I’ve had. I’m definitely going to try using butter flavored shortening next time, but I will absolutely be making them again. They were a big hit!

I made these last week to go with some homemade vegetable beef soup and they were so good. I have been looking for rolls like the ones we were served in the lunchroom in my middle school and these got the texture spot on. The flavor was ok but lacked just a little something so I think next time I will use butter flavored shortening and see where that gets me. Great recipe!

I made these tonight. They were very good. My daughter and husband loved them too. I was in a bit of a hurry so I only let them rise about 25 min the second time, they might have been a bit more fluffy if I’d let them go longer. As it was they were still nice and light.
