These are really good. My family loves them. When I fix them, I usually fix them as a side dish with pork chops, but you can use this as a great topping for ice cream and use as a dessert. I love the tartness of the Granny Smith apples with the sweetness of a red apple. I use different types of red apples every time I use this recipe. So if you have a favorite type, use it.
Peal and slice 3 Granny Smith and 4 sweet, red apples and sit aside. In a cast iron skillet, melt butter. You can use less butter, that is up to you. I like to use more because it gives the sauce a wonderful buttery flavor. Then add your apples, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir all ingredients. Cook until apples are nice and soft. Then serve over fried pork chops, ice cream or whatever you think might be good with it. Or enjoy it by itself.
When I cook my pork chops, I usually only brown and season them with a little salt, pepper and some garlic. Then I will use the same pan to cook my apples. The drippings from the fried pork chops adds a lot more flavor to the apples.
