Cocchi Americano, Italy’s delightful white wine aperitivo has been around since 1891, but has only recently become popular in the U.S. Derived from Moscato d’Asti, its bitter backbone, spicy notes and citrus undertones make it a delightful summer libation.
When the Italians mix this vino aperitivo with anything, it is always sparkling water. The classic recipe goes like this: 1 part Cocchi to 1 part sparkling water over ice with a citrus twist. However, feel free to make it your own. I mix 1 part Cocchi with 3 parts sparkling water over ice. See what you like. This is such an elegant aperitivo, perfect for summer.
For the garnish: Using a citrus stripper, make orange twists. OR slice oranges and cut slices into half wheels – whichever you prefer. I always go for the twist. Set aside.
Fill glasses 1/2 full with cracked ice. Pour Cocchi Americano over ice. Add sparkling water. Stir, and garnish with citrus. Serve at once.
This is perfect for summer. I just know you will love it.
