A recipe of my grandmother’s, famous for her candy making!
1. Combine sugar, milk, butter, and salt in a sauce pan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly over medium heat.
2. Boil 5 minutes (set your timer—five minutes is a LONG time to stir) over medium heat, stirring constantly.
3. Remove from heat, add the marshmallows and semisweet chocolate pieces.
4. Stir until smooth (it takes a while to melt them all).
5. Stir in the chopped nuts (optional—if not using nuts, be sure to stir till all the little bumps are gone; nuts cover a multitude of sins in the kitchen) and vanilla.
6. Pour into a greased 8-inch square pan. Let sit. Cut into small squares and serve!
