Take a number when this bread is being served to make sure you get a slice!
Mix the butter and mustard together. Measure enough aluminum foil to cover entire loaf of bread. On a bread board, slice the loaf into 1/2 inch slices. butter both sides of the slices with mustard/butter mixture. Sprinkle each side with a pinch of poppy seeds. Arrange the buttered slices back into a loaf shape. Place the bread on the foil and layer the bacon slices over the top of the bread.
Seal the bread in the foil and bake in a medium oven (350 to 425 F) for 45 minutes or until the bacon is cooked and the bread has absorbed all the bacon grease. Fold back the foil for the last few minutes of baking in order to crisp the bacon. Slice through the bacon so that each slice of bread will have bacon on top.
This bread is wonderful served with a good steak and baked potato. It’s even better warmed up for breakfast the next morning – if there is any left over! If you are watching your fat and carbs, forget you ever read this recipe. Otherwise, enjoy today and diet tomorrow!
