I was experimenting to make a healthier bread that would also be heavy enough for sandwiches so as not to tear. This recipe is quick and easy–my roommates loved it. Would like to figure out how to make a 2 lb loaf sometime.
Spray pan to prevent sticking.
Add warm water, sugar and yeast to pan of bread machine. Let the yeast dissolve for 10 minutes or until foamy/bubbling. Add the applesauce (use somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 c), premixed flours, and salt to the yeast combination in the pan.
Use these bread machine settings: Light crust, 1- 1 1/2 lb. loaf, basic or white bread. Then press start!
*Note: I prefer to take the loaf out early (around 7-10 minutes) if I’m home. Otherwise, I think the bread crust gets too dark. I haven’t figured out yet how to adjust the timer on the bread machine so that it can finish earlier.
The bread machine cycle from start to finish is a little less than 3 hours.

Ok, I made another loaf of your bread today and my family LOVES it. I used the mix of white and wheat flour this time and it came out perfect. Thanks for posting such a great recipe.

I made your recipe this afternoon and love it. I was out of white flour, so I used just whole wheat and it still came out delicious. Moist, chewy and it sliced beautifully. I’ll be trying it with the white flour added next time, can’t wait to see how it turns out.

This sounds delicious and exactly the recipe I’ve been looking for. On my way to make a loaf right now, be back later to let you know how it turned out.
