I’ve been making these for my Christmas cookie tray for the past fifty years. They’re always a big hit.
Cut butter into 1 cup of the flour and the powdered sugar, as if you are making pie dough. Spread into a 9 x 13″ pan and bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees (F). Cool and once cooled spread with the filling below.
For the filling, combine: 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla. Then fold in the cut up cherries and finely chopped walnuts. Spread the filling into the cooled pie shell.
Bake another 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown on top. Cut into squares while still warm.
