Description

We always use the last of the green tomatoes out of the garden to make this. It is the only relish that my kids will eat.

Ingredients

  • 20 whole Green Tomatoes
  • 8 whole Onions
  • 8 whole Apples
  • 3 whole Green Peppers
  • 5 cups Sugar
  • 3 cups Vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon Celery Seed
  • 1 Tablespoon Turmeric

Preparation

In a food grinder, grind the tomatoes, onions, apples and peppers.

Mix together and drain well. Place in a large kettle with the rest of the ingredients. Mix well and bring to a boil. Simmer for 30 minutes.

Prepare jars by washing in hot soapy water and rinsing in hot water.

Pour the relish in the jars, seal and place in a hot water bath. Make sure there is 1 to 2 inches of water above the jars.

Boil pints for 35 minutes and quarts for 40 minutes. Makes about 10 pints or 5 quarts.

If it is possible to see a picture of the finished product, so I know what it is supposed to look like, to make sure I’m doing it right would be really helpful.
Thank you.
