Crunchy water chestnuts are wrapped with savory bacon and baked in a brown sugar sauce for an easy party snack. They are a cinch to make and stay warm on the buffet table or cocktail tray for quite a while. If they last that long!
In a saucepan over medium heat melt butter; add brown sugar and stir until dissolved and mixture is smooth. Add more brown sugar if needed to make a thick sauce with no butter floating on top. Keep warm while preparing water chestnuts.
Heat oven to 375.
Cut bacon strips in half. Wrap each half around one whole water chestnut and secure with toothpick. Place in a foil-lined 9×13″ baking pan and spoon sauce over each. Bake for 20 minutes or until bacon is crisp and cooked thoroughly.
Tip: This recipe is very forgiving. Wrap the water chestnuts ahead of time, cover and refrigerate until ready to cook, then prepare brown sugar mixture and continue as directed. If bacon is browning too quickly you can turn down the heat Crank it up if guests arrive early, or if you just can’t wait any longer.

I make this every party I carry an appetizer to! Everyone loves it. My variation is to dip the water chestnut wrapped in bacon in soy sauce and broil. It’s a keeper. I’ll give your recipe a try!
