Description

If you want an appetizer that people will go absolutely crazy for, this is it! I get asked to make these and asked for this recipe all the time.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Onion, Chopped
  • 1 cup Fresh Mushrooms, Chopped
  • ¼ cups Butter, Plus Additional Melted Butter To Brush On Rolls
  • 8 ounces, weight Cream Cheese
  • ½ teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ⅛ teaspoons Pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 loaf White Sandwich Bread

Preparation

Put onion, mushrooms and butter into a frying pan. Sauté until soft and onions are clear.

Add cream cheese in chunks. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until cheese melts. Let stand until completely cool.

Remove crusts from bread. Roll each slice with rolling pin. Spread mushroom mixture on each slice and roll up the way you would a jellyroll. Brush with melted or soft butter. Place on a tray to freeze. Store in a plastic bag.

To serve, cut each roll into 4 pieces. Arrange on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a 400ºF (200ºC) oven for 10 – 15 minutes until toasted and hot. Makes 4 dozen.

if I’m not freezing it for later use, can I bake it right away at 400 degrees or should I freeze it for an hr or so then bake it? Also, is it easy to slice from a frozen state or should I pre-slice it before freezing them?

I agree, I could eat this spread on bread. I make this same recipe and they always go fast!
