Description

You know that buffalo chicken dip that’s been all the rage lately at tailgating parties? I wondered how it would be in bite-size form and deep fried. The result? Absolutely delicious!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cooked Chicken
  • 4 ounces, weight Cream Cheese
  • ½ cups Hot Sauce
  • ¾ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Onion Powder
  • 1-¾ cup Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
  • 2 quarts Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs

Preparation

Insert metal blade into food processor. Place cooked chicken into the processor bowl and pulse until chicken is uniformly and finely chopped. Remove chicken to a large bowl and set aside.

Add softened cream cheese to the food processor bowl and pulse until smooth. Add 1/4 cup of the hot sauce, garlic powder and onion powder to the cream cheese and pulse until smooth. Taste to see if you’d like to add the other 1/4 cup of hot sauce (I used Frank’s Red Hot).

Add cream cheese mixture to the chicken. Add the cheddar cheese. Stir to combine everything. Taste to see if you need to season with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into 3/4-1″ balls and place on wax paper lined baking sheet.

Heat oil in deep heavy pot to 350 degrees. Set up a work station with three shallow pans. Place the flour in one pan and season with salt and pepper. Whisk the eggs with a tablespoon of water in the second pan. Place the Panko bread crumbs in the third pan. Roll each chicken ball in the flour, then in the egg, then the Panko. Drop carefully into the oil and fry for 2-3 minutes or until nicely browned. Drain on paper towel.

Serve with blue cheese or ranch dressing as a dip.

OMGosh…I made these this past weekend and 2 things… number 1 my greedy peety husband, sister and friends warmed up bowl full and started eating it as a dip BEFORE I rolled it into balls while out shopping w/ my daughetr and niece (and loved it) and number 2 when I DID finish it off the way it should have been eaten (with a few tweaks for our super spicy tastes) I thought I died and went to Heaven – Most things I make I just whip up from a thought past memory etc – THIS is my favorite new recipe yum yum yum yum yum!
Thank you Mags!!!!!

I made these to take to a party and they were delicious! The crispy shelly combined with the gooey chicken and cheese is wonderful.

Really good and so easy to make up! I didnt put in the whole amount of hot sauce as when i taste tested it, it had quite the bite to it. but once fried, flavor was alot less strong. next time i would probably use about 3/4 of the amount called for.

I love buffalo chicken dip – this is a nice twist! The panko is the perfect breading for these. Yum!
