Description

Lucky for me, my best friend is from Brazil! She has lots of great recipes and came over to share some yummy, authentic goodness with me. She whipped out a Brazilian favorite, Pasteis (plural for Pastel). I’ve been craving it ever since and can’t wait to make it again! There are lots of variations of fillings for the pastel: bananas (with cinnamon and sugar), cheese, heart of palms, shrimp, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • ¼ cups Water
  • 1 can (6 Oz. Can) Tomato Paste
  • 2 whole Hard Boiled Eggs, Chopped
  • Green Olives, Chopped, To Taste
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Minced Garlic
  • 1 bag Pastel Dough (found In Brazilian Or Mexican Food Stores)

Preparation

Cook the ground beef, drain the grease. Add the tomato paste and water, stir. Add the chopped hard boiled eggs, chopped green olives, and minced garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Place a heaping spoonful in the middle of a pastel dough square. Fold over and seal the edges together with a fork. Fry in hot oil just until they turn golden brown.

Do you know how these hold up if you place them in the freezer?
This might be a good one for pre-making and then having on hand.
thanks!

Hi Mariel, as a Brazilian myself it was a nice surprise to see this recipe today! Pasteis are wonderful! I lover them, specially when eaten at the market!
