These delicious onions are smothered in a peppery cheese sauce that makes them the perfect side dish! My favorite way to serve this is with grilled chicken. It’s also great to smother steak!
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Lightly spray a 9×13 casserole dish (ceramic or glass work best).
Peel onions and slice approximately 1/2″ thick. Separate slices into rings and place in baking dish. Set aside.
In medium saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour. Whisk in milk slowly; cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Gradually stir in cheese until melted and smooth.
Pour cheese sauce over onions. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until onions are tender.
