I received this recipe from a friend’s mom that used to make it, now I can’t eat green beans any other way. They are just as good the next day.
In a large heavy saucepan, heat oil.
Add garlic and beans, and saute over high heat to sear beans, stirring frequently so they do not burn. It usually takes just a few minutes with fresh beans and under 5 minutes with frozen beans.
Add thyme, sea salt and pepper to taste (about a dash). Add water and vegetable bouillon. Bring to a boil, cover tightly, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until beans are tender when pierced with the tip of a sharp knife.
Add more water, if necessary. Frozen beans will take only half the time.
Add a squeeze of lemon juice, and toss well.
