If you are Dutch, you know what this is. “Stoofpeertjes” is what they are called in Dutch. Stewed cinnamon pears can be eaten warm or cold, served as dessert, but can also be served as a side dish. This is a typical Dutch dish. I had to improvise with this recipe for stoofpeertjes, because some ingredients are not available here.
Peel the pears, half them and take the core out. Put the bag of frozen berries in a pot and add the juice and sugar. Add the pears and the cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil over medium heat then lower the heat and simmer for 2 hours.
Take the pears out the pot and put into your serving bowl. Press the berries through a sieve into your serving bowl.
If you like the juice thick, then remove a bit of the juice from your pot. Mix 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch with this little bit of juice then pour it in with the rest of the juice, bring the juice to boil again until it thickens.
Pour the juice over the pears and berries. You can serve this as a side dish or use it for a dessert. You can add it to yoghurt or ice cream. The juice can also be used for another great Dutch recipe Griesmeel met Bessensap.
