Absolutely the best fried okra! I never eat fried foods, but will gobble these up like nobody’s business! I serve them over a blackened shrimp salad instead of croutons!
Cover okra with buttermilk in a large bowl. Place in the fridge for 10 minutes (longer is okay).
Meanwhile, heat oil to 375ºF in a Dutch oven or—yikes—a Fry Daddy! Does anyone other than me still own one?
Mix dry ingredients in a small bowl. Remove okra from buttermilk. Dredge through cornmeal mix, shake off excess, and drop into hot oil. Fry okra in batches for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
As I stated above, I use these as croutons for a salad; it makes me feel better about eating this southern fried okra!
