Crunchy, flavorful, fried okra. And the breading stays on! Shall we cook now?
Wash and slice okra; pat dry with paper towels.
Combine eggs and buttermilk; add okra, and let stand for 10 minutes.
Combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt and pepper.
Drain okra, small portions at a time, using a slotted spoon.
Dredge okra, small portions at a time, in flour mixture.
Pour oil to depth of 2 to 3 inches in a Dutch oven or deep-fat fryer and heat to 375 degrees F.
Fry okra until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.

Stormy, I’ve never used a dipping sauce with fried okra, but you might try ranch dressing with it.

Could you suggest a dipping sauce for the Okra? Made your recipe and this was the first time I had deep fried okra. Loved it. Just wondering what kind of dipping sauce would go good with this. Thanks for posting this.

I have been cooking okra for a loooooong time and have never had it turn out as well as it did tonight. The breading stayed on for the first time ever! Great technique. Thanks so much for sharing it.
