I agree with the others that it’s too much water. I used eight smallish apples (gala) and put in a cup of water. Almost immediatly I realized it was too much as the apples give off their juices right away. I poured some off and continued to cook it, a total of 30 minutes simmering. I used an emersion blender so it wasn’t completely smooth but had a good texture. Delish! Will make again (and will use it in my morning oatmeal as well). Thanks for a great recipe!

This was delicious! I ended up simmering it for about 45 mins while I finished the rest of dinner. The apples cooked down into a yummy, chunky sauce (I didn’t need to mash them at all). Thanks for the recipe!

My whole family loved this recipe, and it was very easy for a first-timer. I actually ended up quadrupling it and had no problems with it, now I’m looking forward to enjoying yummy homemade applesauce all winter!

I made this again over the weekend. I love this recipe. I have tried a couple of others, but this is by far the best! So glad you shared it.

You’re right, essjay. There is too much water in this recipe. I’ll change it – I had notated it on my recipe card, but not on my copy in the computer. So sorry. Glad you liked it though!

The kids and I had fun making this. We covered the apples with water, and it ended up being way too much water for my taste (I like homemade applesauce to be a little thicker). We poured at least a cup of water out after cooking and it was still too thin for me. It was simple though, and fun and yummy. It took about 16-17 minutes of simmering to soften our apples.
