A wonderful dish to accompany beef, pork, or chicken. My grandmother made this and I have NEVER shared it.. It is a very wonderful recipe!
Cut cabbage into strips, blanch in hot water until bright green, and drain. In a buttered casserole dish, start layering ingredients starting with cabbage, lots of fresh ground pepper, crushed saltine crackers, and pats of butter. Continue to layer cabbage, pepper, saltines and butter until you end with saltines and pats of butter on your top layer. Pour half-and-half into the dish until you are 1/4 of an inch from the top. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Let stand for 7-10 minutes to set and cool a bit. Enjoy!
Note: You can also use fat-free half-and-half to make it a little lighter!
