Nothing compares to the taste of fresh vs. canned. I grew-up on the canned cranberry sauce. It was beautiful, but the taste was nothing compared to this!
Fresh cranberries, tart apples, walnuts, lemon & orange juice, orange zest, seasonal spices…and of course, Grand Marnier!
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
Add the cranberries and return to a boil. Once a boil is reached, lower the heat so that the mixture simmers.
When you hear the popping of the cranberries and the liquid becomes a burgundy shade, it is time to add the rest of the ingredients.
Add apples, walnuts, Grand Marnier (or 1/4 cup additional fresh juiced orange), lemon and orange juices, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and orange zest.
Continue to simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool.
Serve in a side bowl with any holiday dish!
Note: serving count based on a serving size of 1/2 cup.

Wow. This looks incredible! The only time I ever see fresh cranberries in the stores is around the holidays, so I’ll have to just save this in my recipe box until then. Thanks for posting it, I wish I could try it *now*. (Isn’t this new homemade ingredient section a blast?! I’m reading every recipe!)
