Description

This is a delicious way to eat turnips. It’s a must-have on our holiday table. I first tasted this casserole at a family dinner many years ago and had to have the recipe. Thanks to my brother-in-law’s mom for sharing her recipe.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CASSEROLE:
  • 3 cups Hot Mashed Turnips
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter, Softened
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ⅛ teaspoons Pepper
  • _____
  • FOR THE TOPPING:
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • ½ cups Fine Bread Crumbs

Preparation

Beat the turnips well together with the butter and eggs. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and pepper and mix well. Turn into a 2-quart (2L) casserole baking dish.

Melt the butter for the topping in small saucepan; stir in bread crumbs. Sprinkle over the top of the turnip mixture. Bake uncovered in a 350-degree oven for about 35 to 40 minutes until browned and hot. Serve and enjoy!

This was very good. I’d never had turnips before and my bf’s grandma gave us some, so I wanted to do something with them and we had all the ingredients for this recipe on hand. It was easy and delicious, I’ll definitely make it again. Might add a bit more topping though.

This is very good, and I didn’t wait for a holiday to enjoy it.

This was very tasty! I also made Ree’s Turnip Gratin but I think of the two turnip recipes I prefer this one. I did not do the bread crumb topping but it was still very tasty and I will be making this again!
