Description

A cabbage and noodle side dish. Warm and comfy.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 Oz. Bag) Egg Noodles
  • ½ sticks Butter
  • 1 whole White Onion, Chopped
  • 1 head Green Cabbage, Small

Preparation

Cook egg noodles according to package directions. Drain. Set aside in a large service dish and stir in 1/4 stick of butter to ensure they do not stick together.

While egg noodles are cooking, melt 1/4 stick of butter in large sautee pan over medium/high heat.

Add the onion and sautee for about 5 minutes.

Add chopped cabbage, salt and pepper to taste, and sautee to desired level of tenderness.

Both the cabbage and onion will start to get translucent. That’s when I remove the vegetables from the heat and mix them in with the egg noodles.

Serve warm.

My dad used to make this all the time when I was a kid, but with the addition bacon. Cook the chopped up bacon and set it aside, but leave the grease to saute the cabbage in. Then add the bacon back in when the noodles are ready. Mmm!
My hubby and I don’t eat meat, so we make it plain like the recipe. Sometimes we add sliced radishes to the cabbage for a little color & more flavor.
This is a great dish, very inexpensive (and makes a lot!), tasty and versatile.
