What to do with day old sandwich bread? Make bread dumplings. Good as a side dish and definitely needs gravy!
Combine 1 egg with 1 cup of flour and then add enough water to make a thin paste. Then cut day old sandwich bread into cubes and throw it in the paste and coat all the bread.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Wet your hands and grab some of the bread mixture and form a ball (about the size of a small apple), it can get messy.
Drop the balls into the boiling salted water and cook for 10 minutes. The amount of balls varies with the amount of bread you use. Remove with a slotted spoon making sure to remove most of the water.
They don’t look like much but they make a nice side dish when served with gravy.
