Delicate, delicious homemade tomato sauce. It is so easy to make and you can use it in so many recipes and freeze it for future use. Once it is pureed, the sauce turns a gorgeous reddish-orange and is so soft and fluffy!
Remove tomato cores and cut an x in the bottom of the tomatoes.
Make an ice bath with half the water and some ice in a large bowl and set aside.
Bring the other half of the water to a boil. Add tomatoes and boil until skin starts to wrinkle and loosen, about 10 minutes.
Plunge them in the ice bath.
Peel tomatoes and squeeze gently to remove some of the seeds.
Crush whole, peeled tomatoes by hand into a saucepan.
Add garlic and herbs and simmer on low for 1 hour.
Add olive oil, salt, and tomato paste and simmer for another 30 minutes.
Add butter then using an immersion blender, regular blender, or food processor, puree the tomato sauce until it is smooth.
The sauce turns a gorgeous reddish-orange and is so soft and fluffy! Use it in your favorite recipe or freeze it.
