You’ll never buy canned sauce again! This is thick and delicious and has a wonderful authentic taste. My favorite.
Heat oil over low-to-medium heat in a medium-size sauce pan. Add flour, stir, and cook for about 1 minute. Add chili powder and stir to combine. Add 1 cup of chicken broth (you may want to add another 1/2 cup later if you want a thinner sauce consistency), the tomato sauce, and spices. Stir to combine and reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. The sauce will thicken (which is how I like it, but you can add additional broth to get the consistency of the sauce in a can). This makes about 3 cups of deliciousness.

I haven’t bought enchilada sauce for years after discovering this recipe. I even do it in the microwave in a glass measuring cup to save the cleaning of a pan. As full-time RVers, this is a perfect use of my pantry items.

Oh so loved this sauce!! Will never buy the jarred stuff I was making while chatting with company and didn’t read the directions clearly but it still turned out fantastic!

Oh my gosh! Made this because I didn’t have any canned and didn’t want to go to the store. I’ve always wondered how to make this and now I have hit on the perfect way. TKer’s, this is awesome. Exactly like what is in the can but BETTER. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe. I will never buy the canned stuff again!

Hope you liked it. I made it again today but discovered I didn’t have any chicken broth so I used 3 T of butter instead of oil and used 1-1/2 C of water in place of the broth. It turned out just as good.
