Made in the slow cooker, this winter spice snack mix is addicting and warming!
Into the bowl of your slow cooker, add the mixed nuts, rice squares cereal, corn squares cereal, pretzels, and toasted o’s cereal.
In a heavy bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, whisk in the brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, salt and cayenne pepper until smooth and combined. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes and then remove from heat.
Pour the sauce over the snack mix, and stir thoroughly until the snack mix is evenly coated. Cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every hour, so that the mix does not burn.
Once cooked, pour the snack mix into an even layer onto a large baking sheet. Let it dry and cool completely. Serve or store in an airtight container for 2 weeks. Enjoy!
Notes:
1. Please only cook on the lowest setting of your slow cooker. To go any higher, you will run the risk of burning the snack mix.
2. It is very important that you stir the snack mix every hour to ensure that it does not burn.
3. If you do not have a hole for ventilation in the lid of your slow cooker, place a kitchen towel in between the lid and the slow cooker itself. The snack mix can get soggy if it is not ventilated properly.
