Description

Yummy alternative to cereal and milk. A spicy mix with peanuts. Stored in an airtight container this will be good for up to 2 months.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Corn Flakes Cereal, 18 Oz Box
  • 1 box Rice Crispy Cereal, 12 Oz Box
  • 1 box Corn Chex, 14oz Box
  • ½ boxes (14 Oz. Size) Cheerios
  • 1 box Fruity Pebbles, 11 Oz Box
  • ½ cups Oil For Frying Peanuts
  • 1 cup Dry, Unsalted Peanuts
  • 3 Tablespoons Mustard Seeds
  • Salt To Taste
  • 3 Tablespoons Red Chili Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons Turmeric Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons Fennel Seeds
  • 3 Tablespoons Carom Seeds

Preparation

Preheat oven to 300 F.

Mix Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies and Corn Chex in a big roaster pan or aluminium foil trays and place in the preheated oven for 7-10 minutes or until they get crispy.

Take them out of the oven and add Cheerios and Fruity Pebbles and mix them all together. Never put Fruity Pebbles in the oven as sugar makes them melt. Set the pan aside.

Now in a small pot add around 1/2 cup oil and let it get heated up over medium heat. When the oil gets hot and is shimmering, add the peanuts. Keep stirring them continuously so they don’t burn. When you see the slight color change (it will take like 4-5 minutes), then take the peanuts out of the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels so as to soak up the excess oil.

Now make sure the same oil is warmed up again. Then take it away from the heat. We are going to add the spices into the oil so we don’t want the spices to burn. Add mustard seeds and cover the pan. Put it back on flame. Once the popping sound of mustard seed dies away, take the pan off of the heat and add a dash of salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder and mix. Add the hot oil mixture over the cereal mix. Add fennel seeds and carom seeds along with peanuts. Mix it all up nicely.

Taste. I have noticed the mix to be either a little dry or spices missing. So feel free to again make the hot oil mix and adjust accordingly.

Make sure you mix it all up nicely. Store the mix in sealed airtight containers. Stays good for 2-3 months.
