Description

Roasted chickpeas with a spicy seasoning mix. Just like corn nuts, without chipping your teeth.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Canned Chickpeas
  • 2 teaspoons Brown Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1-½ teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1-½ teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Allspice
  • 1 Tablespoon Canola Oil

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 425 F. Line a baking sheet with foil.

Drain and wash the chickpeas. Place the clean chickpeas on a layer of paper towels and gently rub the tops with another paper towel. The goal is to get the chickpeas as dry as possible.

Make the spice mix. Pour the sugar, salt and all of the spices into a bowl and mix well or add to a food processor and pulse for 5 seconds.

Place the dried chickpeas in a bowl and toss them with the canola oil. Once coated add the spice mix and shake to cover the chickpeas.

Place the seasoned chickpeas on the prepared baking sheet and put the sheet in the oven for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, give the pan a shake, turn the oven off, place the chickpeas back in the oven and continue to let them bake for an additional 10 minutes or so. As the chickpeas cool they will become crunchier. When cooled to room temperature, store in a sealed container.

Thank you. I’m not sure how spicy your family likes their food, but be sure to adjust the heat in the spice mix. As written, using red chili pepper, it can be a little hot.

Your recipe is just what I was looking for!
Once a month, my grandson (10 y/o) and I cook a meal or a special snack for the family.
Since he and I made spaghetti and all the fixin’s last night for the family, your spiced chickpeas will be our next month’s venture.
We always use a “special ingredient”, and the family has to figure out what it is.
I don’t think anyone will figure out that the special ingredient is chickpeas.
Thank you for posting the recipe.
I’ll let you know how our venture turns out.
