I needed energy bars for the long bike rides. I never enjoyed any of the commercial genre and their ingredients lists did not help.
In a saucepan, cook dates, cranberries, sugar, butter and honey (cover with enough water) until you get fruits re-hydrated and the mixture syrupy. Add the orange blossom water.
In a bowl, mix oats, flours (I didn’t, but you could add a bit of salt to sharpen the taste)
Add the fruit compote to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
I cooked it in a glass container covered with a teflon sheet at 350 F for 30 minutes. When cooked, reverse the dish onto a board, wait 10 minutes and cut in pieces.
Why the orange blossom water?? That’s the taste i love in good Baklava.
