Basic Mexican beans.
When you open the bag of beans, make sure you pick out any little stones that may come in the beans, as well as any not-so-good-looking beans. Rinse the beans, place them in a large pot and add water to cover the beans. Bring to a boil, reduce down to a simmer and cover.
After 2 hours, check the liquid content. If it needs more water, add more. At this time you can add salt. Then cover and continue to cook until tender (about 40 minutes more). To test, take one out and pinch—it should be soft when they are ready.
