This recipe was created by a good friend of ours. We love to serve this with burgers, hot dogs or chicken wings. Your family will love them.
Let tater tots thaw slightly. Cut maple bacon in half or thirds. Wrap maple bacon pieces around each tot and insert toothpicks if necessary to hold the bacon on the tots. Sprinkle each tot with maple flavored seasoning. I use Dizzy Pig Raging River seasoning which can be found in some stores or online.
Cook bacon wrapped tots on the grill over indirect medium heat. Turn every 10 minutes to prevent bacon from burning. The tots are done when the bacon is browned. Usually this takes 30-40 minutes. Remove toothpicks and let tots sit for five minutes to cool then serve.
Notes: You can cook these in the oven on medium (300F) but use a rack which will allow bacon grease to drip into another pan wrapped in foil below the tots.
Also we like to cook these over chicken wings on the grill so that the maple bacon drips onto the wings. These are delicious and the maple bacon is the key.
