Here in the south we enjoy all sorts of peas, Black Eye Peas, Purple Hull, Crowder Peas and Cream Peas. I am sharing a recipe for Southern Cream Peas. Similar in taste to it’s sister pea, purple hull but much smoother in taste. If you love purple hull peas, then your gonna love cream peas.
Rinse the fresh peas and let them drain in a colander for a moment. Add the chopped bacon, onion and garlic to a large pot. Cook until the bacon starts to render some fat and the onions are translucent. Add the peas and enough water to cover the peas. The water should be about 1/2 inch above the peas. Add some salt and lots of pepper. Bring the peas to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the peas are tender but still just a tiny bit firm. This should take about an hour to an hour and a half. When the peas are done place in a serving bowl and add additional salt and pepper if needed.

Hi Stacey, we found then at a local peach orchard in Terrell. I am going back this week to get some moonshine syrup and more peas, well that is if they still have some left.

I LOVE cream peas but here in TX they are sometimes hard to find. They are definitely a nice treat when we do find them though.
