A spin off on the classic crouton and an easy snack to take with you (and the kids) on the road.
First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy clean up.
Grab your leftover bread and cut it into 1-inch cubes. Try to make them as even as possible so that they all cook the same. Put all the cubes into a large mixing bowl.
Melt your butter in the microwave. It should take about 30 seconds for room temperature butter, then add the cinnamon sugar to the melted butter. Stir until combined.
Add the butter/cinnamon sugar mix to the bread. Pour it all over the cubes and then mix with a spatula until it is well-coated.
Once the cubes are coated, pour them onto the lined baking sheet and spread them out into a single layer.
Bake in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until they begin to firm up and become light brown. I usually check them after 7 minutes and move them around a bit with a spatula so there is even baking.
Once baked, let them cool and they will firm up a bit out of the oven. Put them in a Ziploc bag and snack whenever the mood strikes. Ours are usually gone within the hour!
Notes:
Feel free to experiment, use other kinds of sweet breads, or plain bread if you aren’t into raisins.
Add some extra spice, maybe a dash of nutmeg?
This is really kid-friendly and my kids enjoy adding the butter (with help!) and mixing the cubes up. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
