The little naked date in the foreground is an unadulterated Bahri date. He is the sweetest, softest little date you will ever find. Almost like a caramel! When I stuff him full of bleu cheese and wrap him in bacon, my husband goes primal.
Preheat oven to 450F. Line a half sheet pan with aluminum foil and fit a wire rack inside. Cut each bacon strip into four equal lengths. Smoosh bleu cheese into balls about the size of a small milk dud (larger if you are using Medjools). Mold date around the cheese. Wrap bacon around the stuffed date and secure with a toothpick.
Place wrapped dates onto the wire rack. Bake for about 8 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven carefully, and flip all dates to cook the bottoms. Return to the oven and cook for another 8 minutes or so. Remove to paper towels to soak up all that extra grease. I removed the toothpicks because I was afraid my husband might hurt himself! Harhar! You can leave the toothpicks in if you are serving humans.
On this batch, I topped some with a little brown sugar and a couple of dashes of soy sauce, redolent of rumaki. I liked the variation, but my husband preferred the unadorned dates. Go figure. By the way, this is way cheaper than the tapas bar! Also, I think bacon should have its very own category on TK.

My mom always made this without the cheese and they are a favorite appetizer. I bet the blue cheese makes it that much better!!!

A friend of mine made this for us lately… I don’t think he used cheese (but I could be wrong)! I usually don’t enjoy dates but I tried it, and loved it! Bacon just makes everything lovely

Awesome! Hope you like them. Those dates are so dang good! We don’t have any left here! We also did a stuffed french toast with them. Gilding the lily, to be sure!

I go to Shield’s Date Garden in Indio, CA. They have an excellent mail order service. I send dates back home to my mom in Indiana every year. Never any problems. If you don’t feel like waiting try a major chain like Piggly Wiggly or Winn Dixie. I would think most of the major chains carry fresh dates in the produce section this time of year. Good luck
