Make your own brown sugar to save money!
This really isn’t intended to be a recipe, but I couldn’t find any other way to submit a tip. The cost savings is quite substantiial!
Brown sugar is just regular granulated white sugar combined with molasses.
Add molasses to sugar. Mix together in a bowl until all the molasses are evenly combined.
Note:
On March 9, 2012 in the supermarket where I reguarly shop (ShopRite in Rio Grande NJ), granulated white sugar is $.34/cup, light or dark brown sugar is $.77/cup and molasses are $.13/tablespoon. So the cost to make light brown sugar is $.48/cup, for savings of $.29/cup. The cost to make dark brown sugar is $.61/cup, for savings of $.16/cup.

Any tips on storing this brown sugar differently from store-bought?
