You know those last couple stale pieces of bread in the bag? Make breadcrumbs out of them and reduce your waste, decrease sodium/ingredients, and increase whole grains!
You have two options to dry out the bread:
(1) Take those last 3-4 slices of whole wheat bread out of the bag and set them out on the counter for a couple days until they are hard and crunchy (this is what I do).
(2) Place bread on a cookie sheet in a 250-300ºF oven for 20-30 minutes, or until it’s all dried out.
Break up your hard bread into chunks and place in a food processor. Pulse until bread crumbs form. It’s your choice whether you want a fine crumb or a heavier crumb! That’s the beauty of making your own! It’s your choice.
For seasoned breadcrumbs, added the garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
Store in an airtight container.
