My husband spent a few weeks in China and came back raving about Jiaozi! I decided I would try to make it. I tweaked a couple recipes I found to make this one! (Also pictured is crab rangoon made with wonton wrappers, cream cheese, diced green onion, and diced crab.)
In a small saucepan, brown the meat and drain off the grease. Transfer the cooked meat to a medium sized bowl and set aside.
Then, in a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, salt, red wine, pepper, sesame oil, and ginger (add more spices to taste; it may seem salty but that’s good!). Add this sauce to the browned meat. Cut up vegetables and add to the meat mixture. Stir together until the meat and vegetables are covered with sauce. If it’s not “saucy” enough for your taste, just add more soy sauce and sesame oil.
Take the won ton wrappers and add a heaping tablespoon of mixture to each wonton wrapper. You can fold them how you want, but I folded the wrappers in half and pressed them tightly together. I even had to dip the edges in water to get them to stick. Next, heat some oil in a saucepan and fry on each side until brown, probably less than 2 minutes.
You can serve this with an optional dipping sauce (simply mix dipping sauce ingredients together).
