Making my 3rd batch. Tomorrow I will make 40 gallons (eight 5 gal buckets). I’ll give half away and everyone I’ve given it to has been very happy and well dressed

I have been making this for years. It works great in a front loader. FYI- the amount in your recipe actually makes 10 gallons. I use a 1/2 recipe and it makes a five gallon bucket.

This is GREAT! I made a half batch (cost about $1) and have used it on several loads in my HE washing machine. I really think this soap is getting my clothes cleaner than store-bought.

I made this last week and have had great results with it. Very easy to make and cheap to purchase the ingredients. I did grate the soap in my food processor since it can go in the dishwasher. I will be making this from now on! Thanks for the great recipe.

honeycrisp is correct about the low to no suds for an HE washer. So it’s completely safe.
I’ve been using a powdered homemade mix, but this sounds like it’ll save me even more money. I seem to prefer using a liquid for detergent anyway. I look forward to trying this when my powdered formula eventually runs out!

Update….I now believe you can find all the ingredients I have listed at WalMart, or atleast you can the one I shop at.
Also I made this the last time and forgot to add the borox and washing soda to my 5 gallon bucket. The next day it was like a bucket of snot. Sorry. I mixed my borax and washing soda into a warm quart of water and added it to the bucket, still has been like snot. I don’t know what that combo did, but won’t. ever. do. it. again. Still works fine, just don’t like the texture.

I’ve used this in two HE machines with great success. The main thing for HE machines is the low suds-ing and this works terrific. I feel so rich after making a large batch and counting the dollars I’ve saved. My hubby bought a paint stirrer drill attachment to handle the mixing which works beautifully. 40 more gallons tomorrow!

@Kim Ellis….My recipe makes 5 gallons of what I call the ‘concentrate. In th original recipe it says to put the concentrate half full in a separaate bottle and then fill the other half with water…which would end up making a total of ten gallons. I just skip that step an use less of the concentrate, thus I get only 5 gallons, but still get the same number of washings. I just don’t have the room in my laundry for one more item so it keeps me from going through that step. Thanks for the input!

Cylina, I’ve got a neice that ha the HE and she uses it. You don’t use much of this detergent and it doesn’t suds. I have the old type machines, so I can’t speak from experience. Maybe you could try it and see.
