I actually figured it out on my own. Instead of using TVP, I used 1c crushed almonds. I added 1/2c raisins, and did not use any chocolate. I used non-milk. I considered the salt, vanilla and cinnamon negligible. I also used a square baking dish, so it was easier to cut out nine portions instead of eight. So my recipe had nine servings. Per serving, my bars have 231 calories, 16g fat, 11g protein and 41g carbs. Not a bad way to start the day. Thanks for the recipe!

Kroger sometimes has it, but I usually buy it in bulk from our local hippie co-op. :) You can order it very cheaply online, though. Bob's Red Mill is a great brand.

Thanks for commenting, nursechacha. :)

There are a lot of recipes out there that call for 4-5 scoops of whey powder instead; I just hadn't seen any before that call for TVP, and I wanted to see if it would work. I am not entirely certain what the texture of whey powder is like -- TVP is sort of like...grape nuts cereal. Is that similar?

Hope the kids love 'em! Thanks, lowcountryheather!

I don't have any TVP, do you think I could substitute whey protein powder? Or is the texture very different? I am looking very forward to making these, for me and my kids!!!

No, thank you! :) I agree -- I always feel weird giving my kids prepackaged ones because I'm worried there's some sort of adult-only weight loss helper in there that I don't want them eating. This way, I know just what I'm giving them without being too hippy about it. :)
