It came out more like a casserole without any extra broth or liquid. I followed the recipe exactly, precooking the pasta, etc.

Suggest you do ALL of your chopping, draining, measuring ahead of time. The few minutes of extra simmering while I drained the cottage cheese, chopped the sausage are probably what made mine less like soup.
