I agree with the others that it's too much water. I used eight smallish apples (gala) and put in a cup of water. Almost immediatly I realized it was too much as the apples give off their juices right away. I poured some off and continued to cook it, a total of 30 minutes simmering. I used an emersion blender so it wasn't completely smooth but had a good texture. Delish! Will make again (and will use it in my morning oatmeal as well). Thanks for a great recipe!

This was delicious! I ended up simmering it for about 45 mins while I finished the rest of dinner. The apples cooked down into a yummy, chunky sauce (I didn't need to mash them at all). Thanks for the recipe!

My whole family loved this recipe, and it was very easy for a first-timer. I actually ended up quadrupling it and had no problems with it, now I'm looking forward to enjoying yummy homemade applesauce all winter!

This is very tasty with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. It is also quick and easy! I wanted a thick, chunky applesauce so I only used 1/2 cup water and just broke the apples up a little with the back of a wooden spoon once they were soft. I let it cool, then froze it in snack sized baggies. I have it on hand to add to my morning oatmeal...makes it taste like dessert. So good!

You're right, essjay. There is too much water in this recipe. I'll change it - I had notated it on my recipe card, but not on my copy in the computer. So sorry. Glad you liked it though!

The kids and I had fun making this. We covered the apples with water, and it ended up being way too much water for my taste (I like homemade applesauce to be a little thicker). We poured at least a cup of water out after cooking and it was still too thin for me. It was simple though, and fun and yummy. It took about 16-17 minutes of simmering to soften our apples.
