I strained my last batch of bacon grease and froze it. I take the jar out of the freezer about an hour before I want to use some, spoon out a heaping tablespoon and thaw it (covered with wax paper) in the micro then toss the asparagus in it. What I don’t use goes back in the freezer. Great flavor. Will try on green beans next ! Thanks for the idea !

I even convinced 2 huge non-fans of asparagus to eat this, and they ended up loving it! I did roast about twice as long to get it a little softer or they wouldn’t have even touched it… but it was still delicious.

I also use this same method on brussel sprouts – either roasted or sliced & saute. Don’t strain the grease & use a little less if you like.

hold the bottom end of the stalk and then put your other hand in the middle and gently bend until the stalk snaps in 2. This is the easiest way to get tender asparagus everytime.
I grew up with an asparagus patch in my back yard…it was a staple in spring and early summer. Trust me on this one!
