The flavor was divine but the texture wasn't quite right. I think if I used a large based skillet and a half a head of cabbage (just so it would fit and have room to 'breathe') it would have gotten a bit more 'crisp' and 'fried'. I used a massive pot as indicated in the recipe but it just didn't have the surface area needed to get that 'fried cabbage' flair. Other than that yum yum, since the texture was a little 'soupy' we added ours into our hoppin' John and it was devoured by all.

WOW! I actually made this with cooked bacon I had in the fridge for a while, and it was still out of this world. Even my 8yr old had two helpings. I used a bit too much pepper, but it was still really good with a nice little black pepper bite! I like that the recipe is called "Old Fashioned" because it definitely reminds me of something my Great Aunt Bonnie would have made. It tastes exactly like what I remember her house smelling like.

Delicious! My brother has been bugging me to cook him some cabbage, I really wasn't sure how to cook it, though. Tried this recipe, and it was a hit, and very easy! Too bad for him, though, he's in OK this week visiting with some of our family! The only complaint I heard was that there was a little much grease. Next time I might drain some out and add it back as needed. It really doesn't seem like too much when you first put in the cabbage, but as the cabbage cooks down, you can see that there is really more than what you need. I might also try some of the suggestions found under the comments.

I made this for supper just last week. I've been making fried cabbage for almost 14 years now (minus the onion).

Give it a try people, trust me. You don't know what you're missing.
