I am very curious what you think. For me baked beats are just very flavorful, you can’t get that flavor our of a bottle or can, but i have boiled my beets before if i need to make this quickly.

Do you suppose you could substitute those? Quite honestly, I have never even touched a fresh beet. Never knew what to do with them. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and follow your recipe exactly.
