oh. my. goodness. This is the best recipe for shepherd’s pie I’ve ever tasted. I’ve made it about 3 or 4 times already this winter, and it is now in our winter dinner rotation! Thanks for sharing!!

This is a tight little recipe. My whole family enjoyed it – fairly predictable since hubby loves Shepherd’s Pie. I did use ground Angus beef and – after reading all the comments on this recipe – posted on Facebook that I was making “Cottage Pie” for dinner. That got a lot of questions and, in my seeking to explain, I found that Cowherders Pie made a bit more sense than “Cottage,” albeit a less appetizing mental image.

Once had a lady from England complain to me that it couldn’t be Shepherd’s Pie without lamb. Kind of snooty, I might add. My response to her was that as an American of Scottish descent – my family used what was readily available to them here to make their favorite comfort food – and that was beef. So, Shepherd’s Pie it remains – at least in my house.

I just now saw this recipie and to throw another name into the mix, we called this meal ‘Chinese Pie’ growing up in Northern Maine. I asked my mother where the name came from and she had absolutely no clue. No matter what the name is, this is one delicious and simple meal. Great for cooler weather.

We had this last night and it was a hit! To be honest, when I was making it, I was wondering how good the end result would be. Very pleased with the taste. Even my 1 year old had seconds!!!
