I left out the water chestnuts since I didn’t have any. I had some fine dry bread crumbs that I just sprinkled on top. I didn’t bother with the butter.

Next time I think I will add a little bit of salt and some cheddar cheese and mix with all the other ingredients before baking.

I was looking for easy and tasty and this fit the bill. I’m glad that I didn’t double the recipe, as it makes plenty (even though I thought from reading the recipe that it wouldn’t make much). The only change to the recipe that I made was to use a handfull (maybe 1/4 cup) of dried onions instead of the fresh. If you’re tempted to leave the onions out, I wouldn’t. They impart needed flavor. I also diced the sliced water chestnuts. On the whole, it was a hit with my family. My husband felt like it was heavy on the bread crumbs, so I’ll probably scale those back to 1 cup next time I make this. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!
