What if I don't have an electric mixer? Can I do it all by hand? For example, use a whisk and keep battering it til it separates or is that not an option?

I've taken to making all my own butter lately ... just because. But because I really hate waste I always try to find uses for the buttermilk - WITHOUT needing to use up all the lovely butter I've just made! Not as easy as you might think, especially given that this buttermilk is not interchangeable with cultured buttermilk, called for in most recipes. One recipe I've found is an Irish soda bread from KAF, but I'd like more options. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

I have made this before. It is really fun!
REMEMBER: squeeze all of the buttermilk out!! One time, I didn't squeeze ALL of it out, and the butter quickly turned sour-smelling even though the taste is still good butter.
