This was awesome. We had several pounds of holiday (glazed) ham leftover and needed something to do with it. This recipe was the perfect solution with a couple of simple mods...I added 1 lb. diced holiday ham to the recipe (layered after the potato layers), increased the milk/cream to 3 cups, and topped with shredded Gouda cheese rather than Parm. I also threw in 1 tsp of dried thyme and 1 tsp of dried basil while making the sauce. Rave reviews, and a perfect savory complement to the sweet/salty ham. It was a great well-rounded casserole.

Really tasty. Loved the combo of bacon, parm and sweet potatoes. Next time I'll add the parm to the white sause instead of just putting it on the top.

I made this for Thanksgiving this week and LOVED it!! I sprayed the glass 11x7 dish a bit first - I was nervous it would stick... :)

THEN - I made it with 2 cups of HALF & HALF - simply scrumptious!!! I layered a bit of the cheese in the first layer, too... I couldn't help myself!

It was just awesome - THANK YOU so much for this recipe! It was even better the next day... :)

Made these for one of my side dishes today. I loved it and so did everyone else. I wanted something different than mashed sweet potatoes. I thought and so did my guest that this was a great change from the ordinary sweet potato. Thanks for a great recipe.

Made this for the first time today for Thanksgiving and was a bit worried about how it would turn out. It was delicious! I usually make a sweet potato casserole with lots of sugar, and I can't have that this year so I was glad to find this recipe. I was worried that I had overboiled the potatoes and that they might be on the mushy side after it baked, but it was perfect. All the flavors go so well together, and my daughter commented that the onions tasted like the ones you get at Outback Steakhouse, lol. Great recipe, easy to follow, turned out delish.

Whoa this is a FANTASTIC recipe! I hate sugary sweet potato dishes, this is just a nice switch up. The bacon works absolutely perfectly with the natural sweetness of the potatoes, and the savory onion white sauce came together perfectly. My only change was salting the water before I boiled the potatoes, which gave the dish a perfect level of sodium. Next time I make it, I'll double the sauce, I really only had enough to cover a single layer of potatoes.

Thanks for this recipe, it was so delicious!

I made these tonight--wanted to do a trial run before I made these as one of my contributions to Thanksgiving dinner. They were great! I didn't change the recipe at all. They are not low in fat, but I don't think anyone expects that on Thanksgiving. I will also make the sweet potatoes with pecans and brown sugar just so everyone is happy!

I must have done something wrong, or else my sweet potatoes were really flavorless to start with, because this didn't have any sweet potato flavor at all. I think I used too much onion, too. I'm never sure how much "one whole onion" is supposed to be.

It sounds like it should be great, and other people have really liked it so I'm going to try it again with different sweet potatoes.
