Basically it is a raisin spice cake; using only the ingredients they were allowed to buy with their food coupons. For the war effort, certain foods were rationed so the troups could be fed while over seas.

I found a recipe like this when I was looking through my mom’s recipe box after she passed away. She married in January 1941. The measurements vary a bit, but the ingredient list is the same.
